December 2007
Dear Secretary,
My Committee has again agreed to participate in the Sponsored Cycle Ride and Walk which is being organised by the Historic Churches Preservation Trust on Saturday 13th September 2008.
In 2006over £1 million was raised nationally. Over 150 churches participated in Staffordshire, raising over £18,000. 50% of the sum raised by any church is returned to them, whilst
the remainder (after deduction of expenses) is credited to the Trust, which administers grants to individual churches.
Individuals are encouraged to visit as many churches and chapels as they can reasonably manage on foot or on a bicycle, including participating churches in neighbouring counties.
They have to find their own sponsors. The scheme requires each church to be open from 10 am to 6 pm on 8th September, 2005. If possible they should also be manned by volunteer recorders who can be sponsored
for the number of visitors to their building. I am aware that this requirement has caused difficulties in some areas, and it is now possible for unmanned churches to join in, provided that a register can be
made available for visiting cyclists and walkers to sign.
Sponsorship Forms and details of churches open will be distributed later. Meanwhile I should be grateful if you would bring this letter to the attention of your Church Council and return
the slip to me as soon as possible. It would help if you could reply as soon as possible. I hope to arrange Area Meetings for Local Organisers in June or July.
This is an ecumenical event. We are keen to involve churches of all denominations so if there are any others in your area who may be interested please list them on the slip.
Please let me know if you require any further information.
Yours sincerely,
Viv Patchett, County Organiser.
